Tyler Kane is The Herald’s All-Area Baseball Player of the YearBy Abby Walker, Herald Writer
Published: Sunday, June 6, 2010 Not even a stress fracture in his lower back could keep Archbishop Murphy pitcher Tyler Kane from a spectacular season. The senior finished the year with an impressive 0.91 earned run average and a 7-1 record — his only loss coming in a state semifinal, 7-6 defeat by eventual 2A champions W.F. West. Kane’s offensive skills are also notable with seven home runs. Partially due to his strong performance this season, the Archbishop Murphy boys’ baseball team finished third at the 2A State Championships, after winning the league and district titles. All of his hard work, perseverance and dedication have culminated with Kane being named The Herald’s 2010 All-Area Baseball Player of the Year. Published: Tuesday, May 18, 2010 The success of the Marysville-Pilchuck softball team's undefeated Wesco North season can be attributed to a lot more than the events of the past two months. The majority of the girls began playing together at the age of seven, giving them close to a decade to bond as a team. Co-captain Megan Rollings believes that closeness gave them the edge in the Wesco North and, hopefully, will do the dame in the postseason. M-P begins play in the 4A District 1 tournament against Snohomish at 3 p.m. today at Sky River Park in Monroe. The top three teams in the district tournament advance to the May 28-29 state tournament at SERA Fields in Tacoma. “I definitely think it was our team chemistry,” said Rollings. “We've been together for nine years and we know each other in and out. It's kind of like a family.” Read the full article at http://heraldnet.com/article/20100518/SPORTS01/705189977 |

The Meadowdale Mavericks baseball squad is back on top. After a slight stumble last season, which kept the Mavericks out of the state tournament, they regained their footing and claimed the 3A District 1 championship with a 5-4 win over Glacier Peak Saturday at Sherman Anderson Field in Mount Vernon. In a game between the top-two seeded Wesco teams, experience played a huge factor and Meadowdale’s win was partially due to strong performances by seniors Taylor Brennan and Andrew Suh. Behind 2-0 in the third inning, Suh (3-for-4) hit the first of his two RBI triples to put Meadowdale on the scoreboard. Two innings later, Brennan smashed an RBI double into center field and Suh experienced a flash of déjà vu when he hit his second RBI triple. “We knew if we could contain both Brennan and Suh that we could beat them,” said Glacier Peak coach Bob Blair. “We were able to contain Taylor a little bit … but we just couldn’t stop Suh. To beat Meadowdale, you’ve got to stop both and we couldn’t do it today.” |
